Every Medicare drug plan has a formulary, a list of covered medications sorted into price tiers, and every plan's list is different. The same medication can cost a few dollars on one plan and hundreds on another, at the same pharmacy, in the same month. When drug costs creep up, the usual cause is not the pharmacy and not the medication. It is a plan that no longer matches the prescriptions you actually take.
Plans change their formularies every year, and prescriptions change too. A plan that matched your medications perfectly two years ago may handle this year's list badly. Most people never re-check the match, because checking it means reading formulary documents nobody enjoys. That is the whole reason this check exists.
You tell Michael the medications you take, by name. He checks them against the drug coverage of the plans we represent in your county: which plan covers your list at the lowest tiers, what the pharmacy networks look like, and whether a different setup would cost less over the year.
